The Art of "Collections" !

I love decorating with  3-Dimensional pieces...
Displays of collections highlight their beauty.

Focus on the shapes....

Or include Color...

Vintage artist palettes become a wall of Art...

Vary the shape...the size...

Art Frames can be as important as the Art...

Mounted on stands, old plaster medallions become sculpture...

Collections....Fun, Creative ....Unique!

Watching Incredible Stencil Artist "Logan Hicks" in Paris!

Paris is full of surprises....
New York based Logan Hicks painting live on the street!
Hicks's multi-layers of stencil style has left a lasting mark on the stencil art community.

After spray painting his large canvas black...
Hicks creates a precision stenciled background....

Than his real magic begins...
His stencils?
He first photographs people and landscapes, prints them, and cuts into stencils!

The first layer is revealed...

But this is ONLY the FIRST of many layers to follow!

With great precision, he replaces the stencils...and continues the next layer....

another layer completed...
This process continues for hours...
Hicks has been known to use as many as 40 layers!

The finished work..."near photorealism"

The man lifting the woman in a pool of water...
her arms floating underwater...
.from stencils and spray paint...

AND the talent of Logan Hicks!

French Marriage Globe Gets New Face!

Marriage Globes, "Globe de Mariee", originated in France in the 19th century
for married couples to display their wedding souvenirs.
Like the one above, they may hold the bride's wedding crown, her flowers,
 or...mirrors and brass cut-outs
Symbolic items often selected together by the couple.

Orange blossoms as in the above globe, represented virginity.
birds represented love, and a dove a desire for peace in the home.

Mirrors had many meanings..
The central mirror was reflection of the soul...
oval mirrors... good luck gifts from bridesmaids..
trapezoidal mirror...the perfect agreement...
the number of small diamond-shaped mirrors... how many children the couple wanted!

Today.....the glass domes take on a new face.....
\

create your own vignette...

New homes for collections....

Simple group of balls take on more importance...

Even shop owners create displays.....
 jewelry now catches your eye.

perfume is more noticed!

Steps outside my Montmartre apartment, I discovered a Soup Fair featuring soups from some of France's best soup makers!

For less than $10....you were given a refillable bowl and spoon...and sent off to eat your way through the tents of contestants...

The " blue ball"???  ....To cast your vote for your favorite!!

Pumpkin soup with Indian spices...

Lentil with garlic and paprika....

Creme of celery topped with mushrooms...

Beet soup....

The Chefs came prepared....Top Chef style

Lots of soup lovers....

This little girl preferred a crepe from a nearby stand...

After sampling...time to vote.
Drop the blue ball into the numbered canister...Voila!
